This Category addresses companies’ efforts to do so through research and development (R&D), new product formulation and reformulation of existing products. It also assesses the quality of the nutrient profiling system that a company may use to guide its product formulation efforts.

This Category consists of two Criteria:

To perform well in this Category, companies should:

  • Set targets to improve the formulation of products across their entire portfolio
  • Disclose targets and performance in a consistent way that is easy to understand
  • Provide healthy and appropriately fortified foods that help address undernutrition
  • Adopt and disclose details of a nutrient profiling system to guide their approach to product formulation
